MEET YOUR THERAPIST

Hi, my name is Melinda Herrera and I am a licensed professional counselor and a Texas board approved supervisor. Decreasing the stigma of mental health is very important to me and being a therapist is a huge responsibility that I do not take lightly.

I know that being vulnerable and opening up in therapy can be quite difficult. The change process can also be challenging. Taking the first step is always the hardest, it takes strength and a lot of vulnerability that as humans we are not used to being. I understand that healing is not linear and there will be a lot of ups and down. Having said that, I do this work because I have seen the process of change and healing happen throughout my career. Before this process can begin, it is helpful to know the underlying contributing factors to the problem(s); as those factors should influence therapy. I believe it is difficult to change something that you do not understand.

I am very honest in the process of therapy and will allow you a space just for you. A safe space of where you will be heard without judgment, where you will be understood, and a space where you will be respected. As a therapist I feel it’s important to say what I see. Confronting unwanted behaviors can leave one feeling exposed. These moments, however, can lead clients to change; and ultimately they come from a place of love. I work collaboratively with clients to capitalize on their own strengths and instincts to be the best version of themselves.
Therapy can be a beautiful journey full of healing and hope. I will encourage you to trust your gut, trust the process, and trust yourself in what you need. I will encourage you to explore and make mistakes. Finding yourself is not simply reaching a particular destination, but paying attention to the personal development and change that happens along the way to reaching your goals – that is what is actually important.
My style is interactive, direct and warm. I strive to create a space where we can reframe what we might perceive as obstacles, as opportunities for growth. I will hold you accountable for goals that you set for therapy. I will always challenge you to be open and honest with yourself. We will work together to develop techniques, skills, and new ways of understanding obstacles as opportunities. Together we will work on building achievable, tangible and practical skills and celebrate successes in the journey of hope, health, and healing.

If you are ready to make a change, I am ready to guide you through your journey of self-discovery. Contact me today.
